Although major mobility projects such as the construction of the Grand Paris Express (GPE) are aimed at revolutionising Ile-de-France transport, 9 million of the 11.6 million people living in Ile-de-France will be less than 2 km from a GPE station, which will eventually create a shortage of parking space around these strategic locations. In fact, the Grand Paris car park market is already experiencing a major shortage that needs to be addressed.

New stations, metro lines, shops, housing and new jobs to be implemented are all reasons for movement that will require users to pay their share of parking in the surrounding area.

In the context of sustainable mobility, it is important to ask the following question: how can we ensure optimal circulation of residents around these key locations once all these new housing, shops and stations have been built?

Take, for example, the workers benefiting from the new job creation in the Ile-de-France region.

These new employees in the company will need to find a parking space every morning before going to work more than ever.

It is therefore important to start thinking about this next issue and to anticipate the needs of residents in order to reduce traffic congestion before it even begins to develop.

Startups are trying to meet this challenge, such as Parkbob, winner of the World Tech Startup Award on Connectivity & ITS.

This solution provides a seamless experience by providing context-specific parking rules and restrictions, as well as real-time parking capacity on public roads.

In the same vein we find ECTOR, which offers valet parking in French stations and airports. His clientele is made up of families but also business people. It is the latter category that society seeks to retain. It has also established partnerships with SNCF, Air France and Accor, who send their customers to them. A fundraising campaign of 5 to 10 million euros is underway to deploy the service more widely in Paris airports but also in major European cities including Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Smart parking: a pillar of mobility

30% of urban traffic is generated by motorists looking for a parking space. Parking space rotation is still long as developments from this service remain low.

Providing users with a transparent parking service adapted to the frequency of travel is part of the cities’ mobility program and is part of major mobility projects.
